Trip Overview

The Everest Base Camp trek is one of the most iconic and popular trekking routes in the world, located in the eastern region of Nepal within the Sagarmatha National Park—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This unforgettable adventure leads you to the base of Mount Everest (8,848.86 m), offering stunning views of snow-capped peaks, dramatic landscapes, and a deep dive into Sherpa culture.

The trek begins with a thrilling 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, and during peak season, like October-November and April-May, you will mostly take a flight from Manthali airport or, optionally, a challenging 12–18 hour jeep ride to Surke for those seeking ground transportation. From Lukla, the well-marked trail winds through traditional Sherpa villages, high-altitude forests, and across thrilling suspension bridges.

Along the way, you’ll visit famous spots like Namche Bazaar, which is the gateway of the Everest Base Camp Trek, and Tengboche Monastery—the largest Buddhist monastery in the region—and enjoy acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to help adjust your body to the altitude. The trek’s highest point is Kala Patthar (5,550 m), from where you'll witness panoramic views of Everest and surrounding Himalayan giants.

Everest Base Camp trekking is suitable for anyone with a good fitness level and a passion for adventure. More than just a physical journey, it’s a cultural experience filled with local hospitality, ancient Buddhist monasteries, colourful prayer flags, and sacred stupas. Experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; whether you're an experienced trekker or a first-time visitor to the Himalayas, Ascent Adventures Nepal will help you make your trek truly memorable.

Sherpa people and mountain views

Sherpas are one of the biggest highlights of the Everest region. They are an indigenous community of the Khumbu region and are known for their endurance and climbing skills. The trail to Everest base camp goes through the beautiful Sherpa villages, and you will get an opportunity to interact with locals and experience their culture, tradition, and lifestyle.

During this trek you will be seeing numerous iconic mountain views, including four mountains above eight thousand meters, such as Mount Everest (8,848 m/29,032 ft), Lhotse (8,516 m/27,940 ft), Makalu (8,585 m/28,169 ft), and Cho Oyu (8,188 m/26,864 ft), and many other popular peaks like Island Peak (6,189 m/20,305 ft), Labuche Peak (6,119 m/20,075 ft), Mera Peak (6,476 m/21,247 ft), Thamserku (6,608 m/21,680 ft), Ama Dablam (6,812 m/22,349 ft), Mount Pumori (7165 m) and many other surrounding mountains.

How will you do EBC Trek?

Your Everest Base Camp Trek begins with a warm welcome at the airport, followed by a transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. You will meet your guide, who will give a full briefing about the program and help you prepare for the journey ahead.

From Kathmandu you will fly to Lukla and begin your trek, passing through traditional Sherpa villages where you can learn about local culture, visit Buddhist monasteries, pass through stupas and chortens, and interact with friendly locals. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and cross thrilling suspension bridges.

At Namche Bazaar, you will have an extra day for acclimatisation. You will hike to Everest View Point to see a stunning panorama view of Mount Everest and other surrounding peaks. As you continue, you’ll visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, where you will have an opportunity to experience peaceful spiritual ceremonies.

Another acclimatisation day will be held at Dingboche (4,410 m), where you’ll stay for two nights. You will hike to Nangkartshang Peak (5,083 m) for better altitude adjustment. Our experienced guide will check your health and oxygen level to ensure you are fit to continue.

From Lobuche, you will hike to Everest Base Camp and return to Gorakshep for the night, as there are no lodges at base camp. Early the next morning, you’ll hike to Kalapathar (5,550 m) to catch the sunrise over Everest—the highest point of your trek and a highlight of the journey.

As usual, you will start your trek after breakfast. You will begin your trek with a gradual ascent towards the ridge for 20 minutes, and after reaching the stupa, you will continue on a relatively flat trail. Along the walk, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the valley and surrounding mountain. After walking 2.5 to 3 hours, you will reach Thukla, where you will stop for your lunch. After lunch, the trail becomes steeper for an hour to the Thukla pass. After reaching the Thukla pass, the terrain becomes more gentle and easier until Labuche.

Upon arrival, you will check in at the guest house, leave your bag, and after lunch, you will hike to EBC.

From Gorekshep to EBC will take approximately 2 hours; the trail leads along the Khumbu glacier. When you reach there, take a moment and enjoy the breathtaking surrounding giant mountains, take some photos, and soak in the achievement.
